The Library has a Busy Month Planned for May
Bookends April 2023
May is a busy month at the West Custer County Library, as it is everywhere. Amidst all the weddings, christenings, graduations and other hoopla, you may find a quiet moment to enjoy a good story. Here are some new acquisitions at the Library: Perennially popular author C. J. Box’s newest has arrived: Storm Watch. “When a prominent University of Wyoming professor goes missing, authorities are stumped. That is, until Joe Pickett makes two surprising discoveries while hunting down a wounded elk as an epic spring storm descends.”
Or perhaps you’d like The Dog of the North by Elizabeth McKenzie, of which one reviewer writes “I’m in love with a grieving misfit driving around with a donkey-shaped piñata in an old van held together by duct tape. [T]he great miracle of McKenzie’s writing…is how she manages to transform misery into gentle humor.”
Not a fiction fan? How about Fly Fishing Southern Colorado: An Angler’s Guide, newly edited and updated? Maps are included to some great near-ish places to fish. Or if movies are more your thing, check out A Man Called Otto, starring a grumpy Tom Hanks, or Season 2 of All Creatures Great and Small (the TV series).
Don’t have time to sit and read or watch? Check out one of these upcoming programs at the Library:
For more information on all events, call the Library at 719/783-9138, or check the website calendar online at www.westcusterlibrary.org.

Don’t have time to sit and read or watch? Check out one of these upcoming programs at the Library:
- For kids 0-5 and their caregivers, the Growing Together program on Wednesdays from 9:30-10 a.m. is focusing on Poetry (through May 10) using song, movement, and finger plays. Stay for playgroup craziness immediately following.
- For kids of any age, the Library has May Day card kits to embellish and color. Bring completed cards back to the Library by 4/27 for delivery to Valley Assisted Living residents.
- For adults, the much anticipated Making Healthy Sourdough Bread has been rescheduled for May 2 at All Aboard Westcliffe. Or, find out how to learn that new language with linguist Scott Munger on May 16, at Learning Language: Tips & Tricks.
- For all ages, join the Library on May 4th (May the Fourth Be with You) to celebrate all things Star Wars. Join the scavenger hunt and rack your brain at Star Wars trivia. Costumes encouraged!
