Easter Egg Hunt at Bluff and Summit Park, Westcliffe!
Bookends March 2023
This month the Library wants to spotlight another couple of free, really useful resources that are available directly through the website (wwwwestcusterlibrary.org): Small Engine Repair and Home Improvement. (Both of these can be accessed either from a home computer or from a Library computer.) For both, go to www.westcusterlibrary.org and click on the top blue toolbar “Online Resources”. Once there, scroll down to “EBSCO Databases” and click there. Choose either Small Engine Repair or, down near the bottom, Home Improvement. Click on either one and continue to narrow your search to the motor or improvement project you want.
Small Engine Repair covers: ATVs, generators and other small engines, marine/boat motors, outdoor power equipment (like lawnmowers), personal watercraft, snowmobiles, and tractors. Under each heading are listings by equipment type, make/model, part, and instructions with detailed diagrams and photos. Let’s say your vintage Harley 125 (1967, two-stroke) is having a clutch issue. Once you’re at “Motorcycles” in Small Engine Repair, click the make (Harley-Davidson), model (125) to be taken to the exploded diagrams and clutch repair instructions (quite simple for this model!). Or perhaps your Honda 2012 TRX420 Rancher ATV is having brake problems. Head over to All Terrain Vehicles, the make (Honda), model (TRX420 Rancher) and part list (brakes) to see detailed instructions for replacing/installing the front disc brakes. Check out this huge resource and its extensive list of types of vehicles/engines, makes, and models for repair instructions.
Home Improvement covers decorating, electricity, maintenance, outdoor projects, plumbing, remodeling, woodworking, and an A-Z subject index. Want to build a deck? Check out some guidelines in Outdoor Projects. Wondering if you can fix that leaky bathroom sink yourself? Look under Plumbing, Basic Materials, Tools & Skills to find out, and then follow up with Sinks & Faucets or Plumbing 101. (Or with your local professional plumber, if the repair is outside your skills and tools!) Did you know that March 20-26 is Fix a Leak Week? Check out the most common repair project guidelines and instructions on the Home Improvement main page.
If you’re not into staying home for DIY (Do It Yourself) fixes this month, come get one of the Library’s Experience Kits. We have a Geocaching kit, complete with instructions and a Garmin GPS. There’s also a kit called “Searching for Bigfoot” that’s perfect for parents and kids to do together. (Make sure to catch a photo if you see him!) The Colorado Mining Experience Kit has instructions and pans to search for gold, along with books listing historic Colorado mines. (Make sure to have owner permission before exploring on private land.) The Library has many experience kits for adults, children, and families – come see for yourself and take one home.
Finally, the Library would like to thank everyone who brought, bought, and ate pies and pie slices for our very successful – and tasty – PI Day fundraiser March 14. Look for some new outdoor equipment to check out in the near future!
