On Sunday, December 18, 2022, Jimmie Ray Pierce, a beloved husband, brother and friend, passed away at the young age of 69. Born to parents Carl and Tessie Pierce in Madisonville, Texas, Jimbo, as he was lovingly known, attended Erie High School, where he played football, baseball and basketball. He went on to join the Navy as a chef for 5 years, ending with an honorable discharge. Jimmie met his wife Theresa in 2019, and just celebrated their one- year anniversary on December 9th. Jimmie loved to travel, but was most known for his large, loving heart, showering pretty much anyone with impromptu gifts, flowers or food.
Jimmie also loved caring for his furry "kids," Sage and Mr. Alex, as well as taking great pride in the care of his home. One of his favorite hobbies was to go cruising in his Hummer, playing the oldies and singing - mostly out of tune! Jimmie is survived by his wife, Theresa, his sister Yvonne (Shirley) Frye, as well as two nieces, two nephews and various family members.
The funeral Mass for Jimmie will be held on Thursday, January 19, 2023, at our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church in Westcliffe, Colorado. Recitation of the Rosary will begin at 9 a.m., followed by the funeral Mass at 10 a.m. Interment of ashes will be immediately after at the Catholic Cemetery. All are invited after to a reception following at Tony's Mountain Pizza.

Why Do People Think That Eating Healthy Is Not Living?
Why is overindulging, processed, sugar- loaded food considered living? It is a societal perception. Think back to your childhood and even now as an adult. When it was your birthday as a kid how many times were you asked “what kind of birthday cake do you want?” When the holidays arrive, it's Halloween candy, Valentine’s candy, feasts at Thanksgiving, Christmas cookies and fudge. Are you starting to see a pattern?
We tend to incorporate unhealthy food into every celebration in our life. Heck, we run to it during the bad times in our life, too. How many times have you popped a movie, grabbed the ice cream or peanut butter and sat on the couch and spoon fed your emotions? Do you think maybe this is why when we start talking about healthy food, people start to think that they will be deprived?
A common thing that I am seeing is when people are faced with a health crisis, they tend to say heck with it, I’m sick, I think I might die anyways, I am going to enjoy life and eat whatever I want. The truth is, this is the time in your life when you should be more concerned about your health and not throwing in the towel. You should be giving your body the vitamins, minerals, nutrients, and antioxidants that it needs to fight the illness!! Your body is your own best defense, not some prescription medication that has 20 side effects. Do you know why doctors are so quick to write a prescription for a “miracle cure” instead of telling you to get healthy? A couple of reasons actually, they get an amazing kick- back from big pharma. And another reason, over the years they realize people are not going to do what they recommend because it takes work! It isn’t easy changing a lifetime of bad habits. It does take work and dedication. You don’t think they have told your elderly parents a million times, to change their diet, move more, lose weight, etc. to control diabetes and high blood pressure? Only to have them come to their next visit 10 pounds heavier?
Think of the frustration as a doctor. It is the same in the veterinary world. I saw it first- hand. Your dog is diabetic, stop free- feeding, stop with the human food. You would hear “but he looks at me with those eyes,” well guess what, you are killing your dog with kindness, literally!
We need to change our mindset and realize that eating healthy is living! It is amazing how much more you enjoy life when you are a healthy weight and move more. Life is passing you by sitting on that couch. Your dog would love to go for a walk. Can you take him? How about playing ball with your grandchild? Think of all the opportunities, the “moments” in life that you are letting pass you by because you are not giving up processed high- calorie unhealthy food. You are choosing that cake, cookie, soda, donut, etc. over actually living!!
We are only a couple weeks into the new year. Most of you have probably already forgotten about that getting healthy New Year’s resolution. Don’t make it a resolution, but decide to take control of your life and make a lifestyle change to start living and see how much easier the change gets!!
