Welcome To The 23rd Issue of Volume 2!
Thank you Lord Jesus and thanks to Valley Bible Fellowship Church for Food, Gifts, and Friendship!
I was immediately welcomed into the Valley Bible Fellowship Church to share a wonderful community meal, friendship, and a warm Christmas setting. Before enjoying our bounty of delicious food, we prayed and thanked Jesus for sacrificing His life for the sins of humanity, and allowing us to enjoy ourselves in His house of God.
After eating and enjoying each other's company, we had a drawing from tickets that each of us received as we walked in. Many of us were given food or gas coupons (as if the wonderful food and friendship wasn't enough). It certainly was a spectacular event! Please enjoy the attached pictures.

Christmas in the Valley - Let the Christmas Season Begin!
Last Saturday, December 3, 2022, joyful folks from infant to 100 came out to partake in Christmas festivities in the Wet Mountain Valley. Our community and organizers did not disappoint!
The Town of Silver Cliff held their annual “Christmas in the Cliffs” event, and it was their biggest and most impressive, yet! There were over 225 adults, children, dogs, and a llama, that came out to meet Santa, share their Christmas list, and have pictures taken with the jolly elf. This year, the backdrop was an absolute work of art. Tim Krejci, Code Enforcement Director, spent the last year creating the setting for Santa. Fun fact: The wood used was off the original Silver Cliff Museum!
In addition to pictures with Santa, there were hot dogs, hot chocolate, popcorn, gift bags for the kiddos, and roasting marshmallows over the fire pit. Both those young and young-at-heart enjoyed this fun activity. Many thanks to the Town of Silver Cliff staff and trustees for all their hard work and dedication to “Christmas in Silver Cliff” every year.
Prior to driving his sleigh to Silver Cliff, Santa made a stop at Valley Ace Hardware in Westcliffe. Santa and his elves took pictures with the kids and parents enjoyed the opportunity to shop as well. Merry Christmas to staff at Valley Ace for all the fun activities they provide for the children each year!
What is Christmas in the Wet Mountain Valley without the annual parade?! This year, the parade was sponsored by Valley Strong and started at 4:30 p.m. instead of the traditional 5 p.m. in previous years. This parade did not disappoint! It was the biggest Christmas parade than I have ever seen in my 23 years of living in Custer County. The floats, lights, and music got everyone cheering and excited for the season. Thank you to Valley Strong for taking ownership of this year’s Christmas parade. I can tell you from experience dear readers, that coordinating parades is a lot of hard work.
The evening concluded with Christmas caroling, hot apple cider, and cookies at the Historic Jones Theater. The cast of “A Christmas Carol” performed a riveting reading of the Charles Dickens classic. At the conclusion, they enjoyed a rousing standing ovation. There is talk that this will become an annual event as well. Thank you to the cast and to all those at the Jones for sharing the talented actors with this community. We look forward to the theater opening fully next year!
Next week, we will have coverage of the Festival of Trees and the results of the drawing and contest. Stay tuned! Merry Christmas from The Valley Beat to all of our readers across the country and to all of our amazing advertisers!! We appreciate each, and every one of you.

Halpin Sworn-in as County Judge Last Week
Custer County has a new County Judge following a lengthy nomination
and selection process. Mike Halpin was sworn in last Thursday by
District Court Judge Lynnette Wenner.
Halpin has a dedicated and distinguished career in law enforcement prior
to being appointed as Custer County Court Judge. He provided security
for the Custer County Courthouse and the jurists for many years and was
with the Colorado State Patrol before that.
The Valley Beat will have a full feature in next week's issue where we
will re-introduce you to Halpin and what makes him qualified to serve as
county judge.
