Families Enjoyed Food, Fun, and Info on the Impacts of Social- Media at the November Bobcat Strong Family Night
On Thursday, December 2, during the next Bobcat Strong Family Night, parents will be introduced to an exciting program that the Colorado Legislature has set up to help parents save for their child's post- secondary education.
The First Step program is available for children born on or after January 1, 2020. For the year of 2022, families receive $100 for opening a College Invest account and additionally, their funds will be MATCHED up to $1000 per year for the next 5 years. For parents with children ages 8 and under, they may be eligible for a $2,500 matching program through College Invest. "This is an incredible program the state offers but many families are unaware of it," said Custer County counselor Troy Bomgardner. "This savings account pays for any post- secondary education, two- or four -year college, trade schools, and vocational schools. It's an almost 'too good to be true' plan. Our hope is to spread the word and get as many families signed up as possible."
The night begins at 5:30 p.m. in the MPR (cafeteria) with free pizza and daycare will be available for children ages two to five, along with supervised games for older children. Parents can bring their own computer, or computers will be provided, and assistance given for parents to set up their own College Invest accounts. Any questions, feel free to call Troy Bomgardner at 783-4927.

Commissioner Canda Thanks Voters for Their Support
Dear Custer County Citizens,
I want to take this opportunity to thank the voters here in Custer County for reelecting me as your District 1 County Commissioner. I am grateful for my family, friends, and supporters who so generously contributed their time and effort to our campaign. We had a great team: the committee worked tirelessly, and everybody made a difference.
I am moved by your confidence and am humbled to have earned your trust during my time on the Board and to be able to spend the next four years continuing to serve you. As we move forward into 2023, our County faces many challenges, but we can overcome them by working together, for the welfare of each other and the love of Custer County.
I wish good health and prosperity to all, and I will do all I can to serve our great citizens while working towards a better future for Custer County.
Thank you, again,
