The Community Pauses to Reflect and Give Thanks,
This Thursday
This Thursday, Nov. 24, we will pause and give thanks for the many blessings we have in our lives.
No matter what we may be going through, there is always something to be grateful for each day. The fact we live in a country with the freedoms we have, is a reason to be thankful.
The following businesses and governmental entities have announced upcoming closures this week. It is in no way a complete list. Please follow-up with a particular business to check on their hours.
This Week:
Students attending Custer County School District, will observe Thanksgiving Break, beginning today. They are scheduled to return to in- school learning, next Monday, November 28.
Thanksgiving Day:
The Silver Cliff and Westcliffe Town Halls will be closed today. Westcliffe will reopen for regular hours on Friday.
The United States Postal Service will be closed today and resume service on Friday morning.
The Custer County Courthouse will be closed today and reopen on Monday, November 28.
Lowes Supermarket will be closed today in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday.
The Custer County Medical Center will be closed and reopen on Friday morning.
From my family to yours, we hope you have a safe, happy, and blessed Thanksgiving. We are grateful for each one of you. Ted, Tracy, and Madeline

There is Always Something for Which to be Grateful
What does Thanksgiving mean to you? During this time of year, we often look back over the year and take stock of all our blessings and give thanks. Even though this year has been one of much strife and uncertainty, we still must not forget that there is ALWAYS something to be thankful, whether it is a family member, a friend, or that we simply wake up each morning. What are YOU thankful for? In 2020, Pastor Shock spoke on the importance of giving thanks. He shared some statistics that made an impact on my life. I hope that it may help everyone the reading this see, that we are “richer” than we may think.
(Above stats taken from an article titled, “Count Your Blessings, By World Standards You Are Wealthy,” by Gordy Kosfeld. Published August 30, 2018.)
Additionally, thanks go to Ted Ballard for finding the following statistics, as well.
As Pastor Shock urged our congregation to remember, we must give thanks during both the good times AND also during the trials. This week and always, may we always remember that even during our trials, there is always something for which to be grateful.
Happy Thanksgiving from the Ballard Family, to yours! --Tracy Ballard
- “If you woke up this morning with more health than illness, you are more blessed than million who will not survive this week.
- If you have never experienced the danger of battle, the loneliness of imprisonment, the agony of torture, or the pangs of starvation, you are ahead of 500 million people in the world.
- If you can attend a church service without fear of harassment, arrest, torture, or death, you are more blessed than three billion people in the world.
- If you have food in the refrigerator, clothes on your back, a roof overhead, and a place to sleep, you are richer than 75 PERCENT of the people in this world.
- If you have money in the bank, in your wallet, and spare change in a dish or someplace else, YOU ARE AMONG THE TOP 8 PERCENT OF THE WORLD’S WEALTHY.
- If you can read this information, you are more blessed than over 2 billion people in the world that cannot read at all.”

Additionally, thanks go to Ted Ballard for finding the following statistics, as well.
- 1.6 Billion people lack adequate housing.
- More than one billion people live on less than $1 per day.
- Over half of the global population live with less than $2 a day.
- 448 million children are underweight.
- Three in 10 adults have no emergency savings, and only one in four adults have a “Rainy Day Fund.”
- 70 percent of adult Americans have less than $1,000 in savings.
