Voters will begin receiving ballots this week
Runbeck Election Services, the vendor that prints and mails the ballots for Custer County, began mailing 3,857 ballots from Phoenix, Arizona on Friday, October 9 to all active voters in Custer County.
Voters should begin receiving their ballots in the mail during the week of October 12. If your physical and/or mailing address has recently changed, please make sure to check with the Clerk and Recorder’s Office to see that we have the correct information in your record. If you will not be in Custer County during this time, please make sure that the Clerk and Recorder’s Office has a correct address to mail your ballot. Ballots CANNOT be forwarded. If you have your mail forwarded, your ballot will be returned to the Clerk and Recorder. If you do not receive your ballot, or your ballot gets damaged, you may come into the Clerk and Recorder’s Office and get a replacement ballot.
If you do not wish to use the ballot you receive in the mail, you may come into the Voter Service and Polling Center, located in the County Building at 205 S. 6th Street, Westcliffe, to vote on one of the voting machines starting on Monday, October 19. Once you vote your ballot, please make sure to sign and date the return envelope. If you have more than one voter in your household, please make sure you sign the correct envelope. Your name will be printed on the envelope next to the signature line. Please sign your envelope using your signature that you use on a daily basis. All signatures are reviewed by Election Judges and compared with the signature we have on file for you. If there is a discrepancy in your signature, you will be sent a letter to confirm, or not, that you voted that ballot. Signatures are an especially important part of the mail ballot process and preventing voter fraud.
Once your ballot is voted, and the return envelope signed, dated, and sealed, we suggest you return your ballot using our 24-hour ballot drop box located at the rear entrance to the County Building, or by bringing your ballot into the Clerk and Recorder’s Office and depositing it into the drop box. If you choose to mail your ballot, please be sure to mail it no later than October 26th to give it plenty of time to be received.
Ballots must be received no later than Tuesday, November 3 by 7 p.m. for them to be counted. Postmarks DO NOT count.
County Clerk and Recorder, Kelley Camper stated “Contrary to the information that has been in the news and social media, I feel very confident in Colorado’s mail ballot election process and the ability for the postal service to get ballots to the voters in a timely manner. This is an important election, and my office, and the election judges that we have, will do everything to make sure that every eligible voter has a chance to vote and have that vote counted.
If you have any questions or concerns at all regarding the process, please feel free to stop by my office or to call me at 719-783-2441. I would rather you get correct information straight from the horse’s mouth!”
