Silver Cliff Mayor Pro-Tem, H.A. “Buck” Wenzel announces his bid for Mayor this April
Silver Cliff, CO—Having served as Silver Cliff Trustee for the first two years, and Mayor Pro-Tem since, Buck Wenzel has announced his desire to seek his first term as Mayor for the town.
“It will be my honor to serve our Town, our staff, and citizens, always remembering not to jeopardize our history and values,” stated Wenzel. Wenzel lives his life according to the following values: honesty, transparency, and the Golden Rule. His background in law enforcement, as a small business owner, and public servant, have taught Wenzel the value of good communication and the importance in setting goals and seeing them to fruition. Silver Cliff, the Town staff, and his fellow citizens are of the utmost importance to Wenzel. As your Mayor Pro-Tem, he has fought to keep our heritage and small town values front and center and he will continue to do so as your Mayor. “I look forward to the future and facing challenges with optimism, and promise to be a good listener, resolve issues in a timely fashion, and continue to fight for our town, and be results-driven, I’m ready!” Please stay tuned to local media for upcoming events. ### |
Election 2020 is in full-swing
The local election season in the two municipalities is officially in full-swing after the deadline
passed for residents of the two towns to throw their hats into the ring to join one of the boards of
trustees, last Monday, January 27, 2020.
According to Silver Cliff Town Clerk Ileen Squire, one packet was picked up and returned for
Mayor. Three packets were picked up for Trustee positions. Mayor Steve Lasswell is not
running for re-election. Mayor Pro-Tem, H.A. “Buck” Wenzel will be running for the seat and is
ready to continue serving the residents of Silver Cliff. Also returning trustee packets were
current trustees Fred Hernandez and Stacey Schoch. A newcomer to the political scene and
joining the board in May will be Jordan Benson. Wenzel, Hernandez, and Schoch have served
Silver Cliff well and are sure to continue to do so in the future.
Clerk for the Town of Westcliffe, Kathy Reis stated that five petitions were picked up and
four were returned and are certified. None of the seats are contested. Not running for re-election
are Charley Ellison and Jim Bistodeau. Ellison was appointed to fill an open seat. Bistodeau
and his wife, Lori will be moving to Florence at the end of the school year in June. Bess Cole
and Gary Frickell will be returning to their seats in May. Also picking up packets were Cathy
Snow and John Johnston. They will be seated when they take their oaths during the first
Tuesday in May.
Even though none of the seats are contested, it is still important to get out and vote on April
7. Both towns are asking voters to approve their requests for a one percent sales tax increase.
Next week, TVB will have an in-depth analysis on the proposal. Also in the coming weeks,
please look for profiles of all the candidates for positions in both towns. It is important everyone
know these public servants and what they want to see happen in the future.

Thanks to My Neighbor’s Cupboard and 55 volunteers, Valley residents and others received a bounty of food and lots of blessings
Families in need received many blessings last Saturday, January 31, when 50,000 pounds of
food was delivered to Custer County by My Neighbor’s Cupboard.
Volunteers from The Custer County Sheriff’s Office, the local Veterans of Foreign Wars
(VFW) chapter, American Legion, the Veteran’s Service Office, and other volunteers gathered
before the sun came up, to move pallets, open packages, and ready their stations for the families
that began arriving long before the 10 a.m. distribution time.
During the course of the day, over 55 volunteers and 700 people received a bounty of
groceries so no one would go hungry. Cars were seen lined up almost to Silver Cliff and down
Main Street in Westcliffe. The gratitude expressed by the families was visibly seen and felt by
the volunteers that chose to spend their Saturday blessing their fellow man.
Many thanks for out to the volunteers and folks from My Neighbor’s Cupboard in Penrose,
for making the trek up the mountain. The organization opened on May 12, 2018. They don’t
have any requirements for individuals that come through their doors. All are served and
welcomed with open arms. They have set up the facility like a “hometown market.” Persons can
“shop” the aisles like they would a grocery store. They are able to provide the bounty of food
because of generous donations from individuals just like you and me. My Neighbor’s Cupboard
does not receive any federal, state, or local monies or grants.
When you enter their doors, you are welcomed with food and drink, a place to sit, and warm
conversation.
My Neighbor’s Cupboard is located at 409 Broadway St. in Penrose. Their phone number is
719-494-6584. You can find them on the web at: www.myneighborscupboard.com. You may
also find them on Facebook.
Please stay tuned to TVB and Facebook for more information on future food distribution
dates and times.
