For Immediate Release:
March 31, 2020

The County offices in the courthouse will remain closed to the public until 8:00 am on May 4, 2020. This is order supersedes any previous orders pertaining to the County Offices in the courthouse.

This order will allow Custer County employees and residents to adhere to the statewide public health orders. This date is subject to change as the situation changes. Until then, only up to 50% of essential employees are allowed in the building. This is to ensure that our employees and the residents of our county are safe and abide by the state’s public health orders. While there are no confirmed COVID-19 cases in Custer County, it is likely that there are cases we are unaware of. That is why it is vital for everyone to be diligent in abiding by the Stay-At-Home order.

The Courtroom has been sectioned off from the rest of the Courthouse. People who attend court and have court business will not have access to the rest of the building until 8:00 am on March 4, 2020.
To find out the essential services that are currently available to the public in each county office call the numbers below:

This week, let’s just have real talk about everything going on around us. These are scary times on so many levels.

We are living under “stay at home” orders. With this comes a change in our routines, which is stressful. Spending more time with spouses and children and trying to occupy everyone, equals more stress. Not being able to go to work, and loss of income is super stressful! It is important to find ways to “cope.”  Look at this as a positive.  A way to simplify things and bond with loved ones, catch up on chores you haven’t been able to get to, and work on your health.

The one thing that I have noticed about this virus is that it is affecting the elderly, of course, we have all been told and seen that.  Have you paid attention though to the number of people that have died from this with underlying conditions? Have you noticed that one of the contributing factors is diabetes?

Just another reason to take control of your health. I see so many people with diabetes that do nothing to control or reverse it other than take a pill or a shot. That is the same as doing nothing. I hope you see these statistics and use it as your wake- up call! If you have been basically ignoring your diabetes up until now, I hope this helps you to make the changes that are needed. Your poor health is putting you at risk and making you more susceptible to the corona virus and other health problems.

Stop ignoring your diabetes and start moving more. Stop eating whatever you want. I know it is hard, but just because your blood sugar may be regulated with a pill or a shot does not mean it is okay. You can be off of that pill or shot. When you have normal blood sugar readings when you are not taking a pill or a shot, that is when it is regulated.
Okay, so now I get real.  If you don’t want to do it for you, do it for your spouse, your children, and your parents that may need you to take care of them, those that love you. Do not let something that you can control and change kill you. One of my driving points is always to ask what you want on your headstone.  Do you want it to say “he loved cake more than his family?”

It is not just diabetes that is a risk factor here, so is high blood pressure. Same as diabetes,  you can adjust your diet and lower your blood pressure(for the majority of people). Lose the extra weight, remove the sodium from your diet and move more. The weather is getting nice so going for a walk is a great place to start, and the fresh air and vitamin D is great for you!

This coronavirus is not going away overnight, neither is the flu, pneumonia etc., which will always an issue too! Don’t keep ignoring your underlying health conditions that put you at risk.

If you are unsure of what changes to make, feel free to join my FaceBook group for healthy meal ideas, and I am always willing to help. I can answer questions and help you make the dietary changes that will get you headed in the right direction to better health and a better quality of life.
