Custer County Clerk and Recorder informs the public on available services through her office during the pandemic

Dear Editor,

I’m writing to let everyone know what services the County Clerk and Recorder’s Office is currently offering during this period that the County offices (which does NOT include the Court Office) are closed to the public.  My office is currently able to assist customers with most transactions by phone, mail, online, or drop-off in the ballot box located at the rear entrance to the Courthouse.  Vehicles can be renewed online at mydmv.colorado.gov.  There is also a link on our county website.  You may also mail your renewals or drop them in the ballot box.  If you have purchased a new vehicle and need to title and/or register it, please call the office at 719-783-2441 for assistance.  We are also accepting recordings by mail or drop-off, and electronically.  If you are needing to obtain a marriage license, please call the office for assistance.  However, please be aware that I’m only able to have half of my staff working right now, so I’m asking for everybody’s patience.  If you call the office and don’t get an answer, please leave a message and someone will return your call.  I realize this may not be ideal for everyone, but I want to emphasize that we are trying to do our part with social distancing, yet still be able to serve the public as efficiently as we can.  I want to thank everybody for your patience and understanding.  We are all in this together!

Sincerely,

Kelley Camper
Custer County Clerk and Recorder

American Legion Post 170 is available for Veterans during these trying times

THANK YOU American Legion
During this difficult time, The American Legion is out there helping the veterans. Post 170 is doing "Buddy Checks"-calling every veteran they have phone numbers for, to make sure they are ok, or need anything.  Many are getting mail, groceries, medications, and other needed items and taking them to the veteran’s home, leaving them on the front porch.  They are doing a service for their comrades.  If you are a veteran and need assistance, call Veterans Service Officer, John Carroll at 719-783-9470, or Legion Commander, Carol Kennedy at 719-783-2462 or other veterans numbers listed in the Legion directory.
What else does the American Legion do?  They support our nation's troops and a strong Dept. of Defense through innumerable programs and services for active duty, National Guard, and Reserves, as well as resources for military families and military retirees.
We mentor thousands of children and youth through educational, competitive and patriotic programs.  Post 170 sponsors the scouting programs in Custer County.  Even though school is now online, Post 170 is still working the scholarship program for 2020 seniors.  Currently, three applications have been filed with the Post.  The deadline was 2 April for the applications and essay on Patriotism to be turned in.  A scholarship of $500 will be awarded to a direct descendent of a military member (Active Duty, Reserve, Guard, or Retired.) We sponsor Colorado Boys State for junior boys.
The American Legion is the most prominent voice for effective VA Health Care and disability benefits, and GI Bill education.  More than 3,600 service officers are handling over 700,000 VA cases at any one time, around the world.  No other veterans service organization provides as much free service for veterans and their families.
We served in the US military and are now continuing to serve our country, our communities, children, and all veterans.  We still BELIEVE in Helping. ALL veterans are welcome.
Meetings have been cancelled /delayed until the quarantine is lifted.
